One of the great benefits of membership in the ASLC is regular delivery of the High Desert Observer. Each month, The HDO covers recent and upcoming club and member activities. There are feature stories on astronomy research and techniques, recent member astrophotos, and a special article produced by NASA especially for astronomy club bulletins. The bulletin also includes an article by the Club President and minutes of the most recently ASLC meeting.
The HDO and its editor, George Hatfield, were Mabel Sterns Award recipients in 2007. The award is given annually by the Astronomical League for outstanding astronomy club bulletins. Members can opt for electronic delivery - or - for an additional $6 annually, a printed copy (b/w) of The HDO can be mailed to you.
